Positive student experiences and excellent post-college prospects for learners at UCG

Positive student experiences and excellent post-college prospects for learners at UCG

New research and survey data for United Colleges Group students (at City of Westminster College and the College of North West London) reveals positive experiences at college, as well as excellent post-college destinations for our learners.

The research, carried out by J2 Research of UCG students completing their studies last academic year, found that 91% of learners in 2024/25 progressed onto positive destinations, such as paid employment, apprenticeships or Higher or Further education – an increase on the previous year’s results.

In addition to learners moving on to paid employment or apprenticeships, many of our students were also offered places in Higher Education at some of the UK’s top universities, including Goldsmiths (University of London), King’s College London, University of Nottingham and University of Manchester

These latest results follow positive experiences shared by students in our most recent QDP student survey. Over 90% of students surveyed reported good experiences across many areas of their college life, including settling in through induction, well-organised classes, clear assessment tasks, and making good progress in their chosen course. Students also overwhelmingly agreed that they feel respected, supported, and are achieving their personal goals.

Students not only responded to the survey in higher numbers than ever before, but the average scores in almost all areas – from Teaching and Learning, Wellbeing and Learner Voice – have increased year-on-year since 2021.

Some comments from our learners include:

  • “Teaching is outstanding. It is a well organised and well-equipped college.”
  • “The college provides a supportive and friendly learning environment, they explain the lessons clearly, and they are patient and helpful. I also appreciate the variety of resources and the way the staff encourage students to improve their skills.”
  • “Our college gives you the opportunity to ensure a stable future, gaining loads of experience and social skills, giving you time to reflect and build confidence.”
  • “The college has good safety, great facilities, helpful teachers, nice managers, respectful students, and clean toilets.”
  • “The environment is friendly and safe. Facilities are good.”
  • “I believe my college treats students fairly and the college provides support to all learners. It also provides high security and safety, and enrichment activities.”
  • “The college provides supportive teachers, a good learning environment, and helpful resources.”
  • “The college ensures everyone is safe and makes everyone feel accepted regardless of their race or religion.”

Stephen Davis, United Colleges Group’s CEO & Group Principal said, “The findings from both independent research and student survey feedback demonstrate that United Colleges Group provides a high-quality, inclusive and supportive learning environment, where students feel safe, respected and motivated to succeed. Strong progression outcomes and positive student experiences highlight the effectiveness of the teaching and support offered by UCG staff, ensuring our learners are well prepared for employment, further study and long-term success.”

“Studying here has been the best experience”
City of Westminster College Logo

“At City of Westminster College, my experience has been the best of all the other colleges I’ve attended. The reason I like CWC is because the teachers make my journey easier with assessment and exams. I’m a Level Two Science student and I enjoy my lessons because most of them are practical, which are helpful for me. I love studying at CWC because you meet people from other countries – all over the world and from all different communities.”

“The facilities here are brilliant. You have range of courses you can study. My teachers in the Performing Arts department have got history in the industry, which is very useful. You get to ask them for advice and actual knowledge from the industry, and take that into your own work within the college also afterwards. ”

“Getting into security has opened doors for me.”
City of Westminster College Logo

“The training process was seamless. I had good instructors who were very flexible, supporting people of all learning levels. On the last day after our exams, a security company came and did a presentation. We had the opportunity to have an interview afterwards. I told them about my experiences, and they said I would be a good fit. I formally applied for a role and started with the company soon after. Getting into security has opened doors for me. I hope I will continue to take steps up the career ladder.”
