How to Apply
Applying to college is an important step, and we’re here to make the process simple.
At United Colleges Group, we offer a wide range of courses for school leavers, adults and career changers. Whether you’re applying for A Levels, T Levels, vocational courses or adult learning, this guide explains how to apply and what to expect.

How to Apply for a Course
Follow these simple steps to apply to City of Westminster College or College of North West London:
1. Choose your course
Browse our courses and find the right subject for your interests and career goals.
2. Apply online
Click the “Apply” button on your chosen course page and complete the application form.
Make sure to include your qualifications or predicted grades.
3. Track your application
After applying, you’ll receive access to our applicant portal (ProPortal) where you can:
- Track your application progress
- Check interview requirements
- Accept or decline your offer
4. Attend an interview (if required)
Some courses may require an interview, audition or we may ask you to share some previous examples of your work with us.
5. Receive your offer
Most offers are conditional based on your GCSE results, predicted grades or prior qualifications.
6. Enrol and secure your place
You must complete enrolment to officially start your course – this happens mainly during August each year. Read more on enrolment below.
Frequently Asked Questions
We offer courses for all ages, including a wide range of 16–18 college courses in London. We welcome applicants from across London and surrounding areas.
For Higher Education courses, it is preferable to apply through UCAS.
You’ll receive a confirmation email and access to our applicant portal to track your progress and next steps.
Some courses require interviews, auditions or we’ll ask you to share some examples of your previous work. You can check this in your applicant portal.
Yes. If you would like to change your course, please email admissions@ucg.ac.uk and let us know which course you would like to change to.
If you have applied for more than one course, please also tell us your preferred first choice.
Please contact the Admissions Team by email and include:
- Your full name
- Your date of birth
This will help us check whether we have received your application. Sometimes applicants accidentally enter an incorrect email address, which can prevent our messages from reaching them.
If you are aged 16-18 on 31 August in the year you are looking to study a further education course with us and meet the residency requirements, your course will be free. The following proof of residency documents are accepted:
- a UK passport or proof of EU Settled Status
- or Full British birth certificate
- or Home office documents
- or Non-EU passport showing a valid visa for residence in the UK
Adults (19+):
- Fees may apply, but financial support is available

Yes but we recommend that you attend an Open Day or speak to our team for guidance on choosing the right course before.
Depending on the course, we’ll let you know in advance what to bring – some interviews are online, some are in in-person. Remember, interviews are as much for you to get to know us as they are for us to get to know you. Our staff will support you to ensure you do your best.

Yes. Parents, guardians and carers are welcome, but they will usually be asked to wait in Reception during your interview.
We consider a range of factors, including:
- Academic potential and predicted grades
- School report or references
- Subject combination
- Contribution to school, work or community
Please note that some courses are oversubscribed, and we cannot always guarantee an interview for all applicants who meet the minimum criteria.
Yes, for some courses you may need to demonstrate your ability. For example Performing Art applicants need to audition
You will receive an email and need to log in to ProPortal to accept or decline your offer.
Please note that accepting an offer does not guarantee a place. Your place is only confirmed once you enrol.
We aim to let applicants know as soon as possible. In many cases, you may be told the outcome at interview, but your confirmation email may take a little longer.
Most offers are conditional, based on GCSE results or other entry requirements. Some courses may also require a portfolio or audition.

- Advise that we are unable to offer a place
Yes, we offer many places to students across a range of subjects without conducting interviews.
We will do our best to help, but this depends on availability. If you want to move to a completely different subject area, you may need to submit a new application.
Based on your application or interview, we may feel that a different course or level would be more suitable for you.
If you do not achieve the grades you expected, we will try to offer you a place on an alternative course or level.
Please let us know as soon as possible. You can withdraw your application through ProPortal or by email.
No. You must complete enrolment before you can start your course.
Once you have applied and received an invitation to enrol, you must attend college in person on your allocated enrolment date and time. Enrolment cannot be completed by someone else on your behalf.
During enrolment, our staff will check your personal details, qualifications, residency status, and any funding or fee information. You will also speak to the relevant curriculum team to confirm that the course is suitable for you. Please bring all required documents with you, including proof of ID, your GCSE results or other qualification certificates, and proof of your status in the UK or a valid share code, if required.
If you applied during the summer and have not received an enrolment email, please check our website for the latest enrolment dates and times, and attend college during the published enrolment sessions. We recommend submitting an application before coming into college, as this will help speed up the enrolment process.
Before you leave college on your enrolment day, please make sure you have received your Learning Agreement as proof of enrolment, as well as your new student ID card.
Your induction information and timetable will be sent to you by email after enrolment.
Please check your junk or spam folder first, as enrolment emails can sometimes be filtered there.
If you applied during the summer period and have not received an enrolment email, please check our website for enrolment dates and times, and come into college during the published enrolment sessions.
If you are still unsure, please contact our Admissions Team so we can check your application and confirm the next steps. When contacting us, please include your full name, date of birth, student reference number if you have one, and the course you applied for.
Don’t worry. Come and speak to us during enrolment and our team will help you choose a course and complete your application.
This will depend on the course you have applied for, the number of available places, and whether other applicants accept or decline their offers.
If a place becomes available, we will contact applicants from the waiting list. Please make sure your contact details are up to date and check your emails, including your junk or spam folder, regularly.
Please note that being on a waiting list does not guarantee a place, as courses can fill quickly and availability may change throughout enrolment.
Yes. After GCSE Results Day in August, you can attend Open Enrolment at either our Paddington Green Campus or Willesden Campus, provided you meet the minimum entry requirements for your chosen course.
Please note that not all courses require an interview. If you have your GCSE results or any other qualification certificates, please bring them with you, as this will help us assess your eligibility and advise you on the most suitable course.
Existing applicants are prioritised before new or re-applications, and places on popular courses may fill quickly. We therefore recommend attending as early as possible during the published enrolment period.
Please bring the following documents with you to enrolment:
- Proof of identity, such as a passport, birth certificate, driving licence or national identity card.
- Proof of your qualifications, including GCSE results slips, certificates or any other relevant qualification evidence.
- Proof of your status in the UK, or a valid share code, as we are required to check your residency status as part of the enrolment process.
- Your National Insurance number, if you have one.
- Evidence of any benefits, income or funding support, if this applies to you.
- If you are aged 16–18, please provide your parent/carer’s contact details, including their name, phone number and email address.
If you are not a British or Irish national, please bring your passport, travel document or Application Registration Card, as well as evidence of your immigration status. In most cases, this should include an eVisa share code.
No. You must complete your enrolment before you can start your course.
Enrolment confirms your place at the college and allows us to check your details, qualifications, residency status and any funding or fee information. If you do not complete enrolment, you will not be able to attend classes.
If, for any reason, you are unable to attend enrolment, please contact our Admissions Team. They may be able to arrange a meeting with the curriculum team at a later stage; however, this will depend on whether places are still available.
