Construction Skills Level 1 Extended Certificate
Construction Skills Level 1 Extended Certificate is designed for learners aged 16–18 who want to develop practical skills in electrical installation and plumbing. This hands-on course provides an introduction to the construction industry, helping you build the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to progress to Level 2 study or apprenticeships.
Awarding Body:
You will gain practical experience in both electrical and plumbing trades using industry-standard equipment and workshops.
You will learn through a combination of workshop-based training, demonstrations and supervised practical tasks, alongside classroom learning.
- Installing one-way and two-way lighting systems
- Basic electrical installation skills
- Working with copper and steel pipes
- Installing bathroom suites
- Health and safety in construction
- Introduction to construction tools and materials
After successfully completing this course, you can progress to:
- Level 2 Diplomas in Electrical Installation or Plumbing
- Level 2 courses in Construction or Engineering
- Apprenticeships in construction trades
Progression is dependent on good attendance (90%+) and achieving at least Level 1 in English and Maths.
Assessment is based on both practical and theoretical work:
- Practical workshop assessments
- Written tasks and assignments
- Ongoing tutor observation and feedback
- No formal qualifications required OR 0–2 GCSEs (grades 1, 2 or 3) (flexibility may apply)
- Initial assessment in English and maths
- Alternative entry via reference, personal statement, or demonstrated interest may be acceptable
- Gain hands-on experience in electrical and plumbing trades
