Hasmeta Yadev wins Apprentice of the Year Award

Congratulations are in order for Hasmeta Yadev, who this weekend took home the coveted Apprentice of the Year award at the 2024 West London Business Awards.

Taking place at Twickenham Stadium on Friday 16th February, and partnered with organisations including Brentford Football Club, Heathrow airport and Westfield, the West London Business Awards recognises leadership and innovation across the region.

Hasmeta applied for an apprenticeship position at the College of North West London (CNWL) in 2020. A wife, mother, and grandmother, she decided she wanted to create a new career path for herself in business administration.

And create a new career she has! Promoted once already during her short time with CNWL, she is currently in her second role as End Point Assessment Coordinator. This was a new role that Hasmeta has taken ownership of, where she provides outstanding support to lecturers, managers, assessors, and apprentices, ensuring everyone – including over 400 apprentices – is prepared for the requirements of end point assessments.

Hasmeta commits herself to everything that she does, she supports team members with their own development and is always sharing her knowledge with others. She is an inspiration not only to her team, but to the apprentices she supports on a daily basis. Hasmeta has proven that you can change career at any age, and that pure determination is all you need to succeed.

“Hasmeta exceeds the expectations of her colleagues and apprentices every day. The impact she has had on the business since she started has been significant and she is a recognised member of the team across the United Colleges Group campuses. Hasmeta is an inspiration to her colleagues and apprentices, she is the reason we do what we do as a college and is the ultimate success story we aspire all of our apprentices to be.” Luci Ord, Director of Business Development and Apprenticeships, Business Development, United Colleges Group

Receiving the apprentice of the year award is a tremendous honour for me. I couldn’t have achieved this without the continuous support of my mentors, fellow apprentices, apprenticeship team, and family. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow, and the guidance I have received has been invaluable. This award serves as a reminder of the significance of perseverance and demonstrates that with passion, determination, and a strong support system, anything can be accomplished!” Hasmeta Yadev, End Point Assessment Administrator – Apprenticeships, United Colleges Group

Additionally, another United Colleges Group apprentice Lewis Chappin was highly commended in the Apprenticeship category. Lewis works with Danbro Electrical and is studying Level 3 Installation and Maintenance, Electrician.

A spokesperson from Danbro said: “In a very short space of time, Lewis has shown the team how committed he is to getting his training completed. He is working closely with the electricians and other members of the company and is clearly a very bright and capable young person. We are very pleased he has joined our business and are excited for his future with the company.”

“Studying here has been the best experience”
City of Westminster College Logo

“At City of Westminster College, my experience has been the best of all the other colleges I’ve attended. The reason I like CWC is because the teachers make my journey easier with assessment and exams. I’m a Level Two Science student and I enjoy my lessons because most of them are practical, which are helpful for me. I love studying at CWC because you meet people from other countries – all over the world and from all different communities.”

“Getting into security has opened doors for me.”
City of Westminster College Logo

“The training process was seamless. I had good instructors who were very flexible, supporting people of all learning levels. On the last day after our exams, a security company came and did a presentation. We had the opportunity to have an interview afterwards. I told them about my experiences, and they said I would be a good fit. I formally applied for a role and started with the company soon after. Getting into security has opened doors for me. I hope I will continue to take steps up the career ladder.”
