Women’s Hairdressing Level 2 Certificate
The Level 2 Certificate in Women’s Hairdressing is a practical, salon-based course for learners who want to start a career in the hairdressing industry. This course provides the essential skills and knowledge needed to work as a junior stylist or salon assistant, while helping you build confidence, creativity and professionalism in a real salon environment.
Awarding Body:
You will develop a range of core hairdressing skills and techniques required to work in a professional salon.
You will learn through hands-on training in a fully equipped salon, working with real clients under the supervision of experienced tutors, alongside classroom-based theory.
- Shampooing and conditioning hair
- Cutting women’s hair
- Hair colouring and lightening techniques
- Blow-drying and styling
- Health and safety in the salon
- Client consultation and care
- Promoting salon products and services
After successfully completing this course, you can progress to:
- Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing
- Hairdressing apprenticeships
- Employment as a salon assistant or junior stylist
Assessment is carried out through continuous practical and coursework assessment, allowing you to build a portfolio of evidence. Methods include:
- Practical assessments on clients
- Observations of salon skills
- Written assignments
- Professional discussions
- 4 GCSEs (grades 3 or above) OR related Level 1 qualification (flexibility may apply)
- Ideally English and maths at grade 3–4, or willingness to study alongside
- An interview may be required, we’ll be in touch after you apply to invite you to an interview if needed
- Alternative entry via relevant experience may be acceptable

VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Women’s Hairdressing
- Available as a full-time course for 16-18 learners or part-time for adults
- Independent practice and study are recommended to support skill development
