Visual Communication Level 3 Extended Diploma
The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Visual Communication at City of Westminster College is a two-year course for students aged 16–18 who want to build a career in graphic design, digital media, marketing and content creation. Based at our Paddington Green Campus, this course focuses on developing your ability to create powerful visual media for branding, advertising and social media. You will work on industry-led projects, learning how to communicate ideas effectively through design, photography and video.
Awarding Body:
This course combines creative experimentation: project assignments that mirror industry briefs and real world commissions. It helps you develop both technical skills and creative thinking and industry readiness..
You will study a wide range of visual communication disciplines, including:
- Photography and studio lighting
- Video production and content creation
- Illustration and visual storytelling
- Graphic design and branding
- Digital design using Adobe Creative Suite
Throughout the course, you will:
- Work on real-world industry briefs and collaborative projects
- Learn design principles, visual language and research methods
- Develop skills in journalism, contextual studies and creative theory
- Explore traditional techniques such as screen printing and collage
- Build confidence presenting your work professionally
In Year 2, you will refine your skills, develop a professional portfolio and prepare for progression into higher education or employment in the creative industries.
This course prepares you for progression to higher education and careers in the creative industries.
Progression options include:
- University degrees in graphic design, media, marketing or visual communication
- Entry-level roles in creative industries such as design, content creation and digital media
Assessment is entirely coursework-based and reflects industry practice.
- Creative portfolios of work
- Reflective journals
- Presentations and reports
- Team projects and collaborative briefs
You will be assessed through ongoing project work, allowing you to demonstrate your creativity, technical ability and professional development.
- 4-5 GCSEs (grades 4 or above) including English and/or a creative subject (e.g. subjects such as art, design, media, drama or music)
- OR Level 2 qualification in a creative subject
- An interview will be required and we would like to see examples of your creative work. We’ll be in touch after you apply to invite you to an interview
- Alternative entry via relevant experience may be acceptable
- Work on industry-led briefs and real-world creative projects
- Learn using industry-standard software including Adobe Creative Suite
- Develop skills in graphic design, photography, video and digital media
- Collaborate with peers and engage with London’s creative community
- Build a professional portfolio for university or employment
- Be taught by experienced tutors with industry knowledge
- Work directly with our resident artists
- Exhibit your work in our End of year exhibition
- Participate in international art exhibitions
- Access to UAL Insights Spring, Summer and Winter schools (subject to eligibility)
On successful completion, you will achieve the UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication.
This cost of this course is £3,345.00.
