T Level in Digital Software Development
The T Level in Digital Software Development is a two-year, Level 3 qualification designed for students aged 16-18 who want to build a career in the tech industry. It offers a strong alternative to A Levels and apprenticeships, combining classroom learning with real-world industry experience. Delivered at our Paddington Green Campus, this course focuses on developing the technical and professional skills needed for careers in software development, programming and digital technologies. You will spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% gaining hands-on experience through an industry placement, ensuring you graduate job-ready.
During the course, you will develop a strong foundation in digital and software development, including:
- Programming and software development principles
- Problem solving and computational thinking
- Data management and digital systems
- Cyber security and digital environments
- Business context and the role of technology in organisations
- Emerging technologies and their impact on society
- Legal and regulatory requirements in the digital sector
You will also complete practical, industry-style projects to build your technical skills and professional confidence.
Industry Placement
A key part of the T Level is your industry placement, where you will complete a minimum of 315 hours with an external employer.

Relevant part-time work in a digital role may count towards your placement hours.
After completing this course, you can progress to:
- University degrees in software development, computer science or digital technologies
- Higher or degree apprenticeships in the tech sector
- Entry-level roles in software development or IT
Assessment is designed to reflect industry practice and includes:
- Written examinations
- Employer-set project
- Synoptic assessment
- Industry placement performance
You will also complete a placement logbook, demonstrate progress against learning goals and receive an employer appraisal.
- 4–5 GCSEs (grades 4–5), including English (and maths if required) (flexibility may apply)
- OR Level 2 qualification
- An interview may be required; we’ll be in touch after you apply to invite you to an interview if needed
- Alternative entry via relevant experience may be acceptable
