The T Level in Building Services Engineering (Electrotechnical Engineering) combines classroom theory and practical workshop learning, and is made up of the following: A technical qualification studied over two years which covers the core knowledge required in the building services sector plus specific specialist occupational skills in electrotechnology. An industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days) with an employer to make sure you have authentic experience of the workplace. The purpose of this T Level Technical Qualification is to ensure students have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into highly skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher level study, including university. The core component of the technical qualification is assessed using externally marked written tests and an externally marked employer set project. The Electrotechnical occupational specialist component is assessed by an externally set and marked project. You will develop diverse transferable knowledge, skills and behaviours leading to highly paid employment in the Building Services sector, which includes electrical engineers, engineering design technicians, building services engineers, maintenance engineers and many more roles which require a solid electrotechnical background. You will gain real work experience with an industrial placement which could lead to an apprenticeship in engineering or electrical installations if you wish to become a fully qualified electrician. The course does not contain as much formal assessment as traditional vocational courses which means you can spend more time studying and learning without the pressure of continually being assessed. The course puts sustainability and green technology at the forefront of its curriculum design and you will learn how the building services industry can cut its carbon footprint to work towards reaching net-zero. For those who want to follow an academic route there is the chance to choose university to study full-time for a BEng or BSc in an engineering related discipline. You will have regular contact with mentors and ambassadors from both industry and higher education who will help you develop your skills and behaviours, and prepare you for whichever path you take after achieving your T-Level. You will be expected to register with relevant professional bodies such as the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) which includes a Women in Building Services Network and a Young Engineers Network. Electrical Installation Apprenticeship to train to become a qualified commercial, domestic or maintenance electrician. Higher or Degree Apprenticeship in an engineering related discipline. Employment with a building services or engineering company. University to study from a wide range of Building Services or Engineering subjects
A minimum of five GCSEs with grades 9-4 including English Language, Mathematics and at least one Science. Grade 5 and up in both English and mathematics would be desirable but not essential depending on the outcome of an interview. An interview to determine a candidate's suitability for the programme, where behaviours, motivation and basic knowledge of the building services industry is assessed by a course tutor.
T-Level in Building Services Engineering (Electrotechnical Engineering). The overall qualification is graded on the scale of Unclassified, Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*. UCAS points are allocated to overall T Level grades with D* achieving 168 points which is the same as three A* grades at A Level.
