This course is suitable for anyone wanting a career in construction, specifically in areas such as electrical installation and maintenance, plumbing or heating. Students can progress into roles such as: Electrician (domestic or industrial), plumber, heating engineer, building services technician or engineer, heating and ventilation engineer, refrigeration and air-conditioning engineer. This two-year course focuses on building services systems related primarily to electrical installations and plumbing and their integration into modern building infrastructure. T Levels aim to provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door to high skilled employment, higher level study or a degree apprenticeship. The course is delivered through workshop-based practical sessions, class-based theoretical delivery and work experience placements in both years. You'll have access to guest speakers and industry experts, site visits, relevant field trips and industry placements on live sites out in the world of work. There is also an employer-set project, which you will complete as part of a team. If you are not quite ready for a T level (see Entry Requirements), then a level 2 programme could give you the chance to improve your mathematics and English to move on to a T level the following year. *You will be timetabled for 20 hours per week in college over 4 days. One day per week is kept free for independent study and possible industry work placements.
Your core first year is assessed by two examinations and one employer set project. In your second year you will study a specialist occupation (either electrotechnology or plumbing and heating) which is assessed using a single project.
Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, mathematics and a science or design technology based subject. Students who have achieved a level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation or Plumbing will be considered for this T level if they have achieved mathematics and English to Grade 4 or above. If you don't meet these requirements but want to start on your chosen career path, entry requirements for our level 2 Study Programmes in Electrical Installations or Plumbing are slightly lower. You will need minimum Grade 3 passes in both English (language) and mathematics. We will consider all applications case-by-case to ensure you get a place on the most suitable course.
