Music and Music Technology Level 2 Gateway Diploma (Islington Music Workshop)
This Gateway Level 2 Diploma in Music and Music Technology is delivered in partnership with Islington Music Workshop (IMW), offering a hands-on introduction to music production, sound engineering and the wider music industry.
Designed for adult learners, this 20-week course provides the skills and knowledge needed to progress into higher-level study or entry-level roles in music and audio production.
Awarding Body:
You will develop practical and technical skills using industry-standard equipment and professional studio environments.
Key learning areas include:
- Music production and recording techniques
- Sound engineering and mixing
- Digital audio workstations (Logic Pro, Pro Tools)
- Studio recording and editing
- Creative project development
You will train in professional facilities, including:
- Apple Mac workstations with SSL Nucleus controllers
- Logic Pro and Pro Tools software
- State-of-the-art recording studios with SSL Duality Mixing Console
On successful completion, you can progress to higher-level study in music and audio production.
Progression options include:
- Level 3 music or music technology courses
- Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Music Production (with IMW)
- Further study in sound engineering or creative media
This course also provides a strong foundation for careers in the music and creative industries.
Assessment is portfolio-based and reflects real industry practice.

You will submit work at key points during the course (weeks 4, 10, 14 and 20).
- 2–4 GCSEs (grades 2, 3 or 4) OR Level 1 qualification (flexibility may apply)
- Ideally English or maths at grade 3–4, or willingness to study alongside
- An interview may be required; we’ll be in touch after you apply to invite you to an interview if needed
- Alternative entry via relevant experience may be acceptable
- Study in professional recording studios with industry-standard equipment
