Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (AST)
This qualification will enable the learner to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in a school environment. It is made up of mandatory and optional units which are based on knowledge and skills. You will need to achieve 30 credits with 24 credits coming from the mandatory units. The remaining credits will be achieved from optional units.

You need a good standard of written English and Maths and will need to demonstrate this at interview. You will need to be working as a teaching assistant for sixteen hours or more on a paid or voluntary basis. Your work placement must be willing to release you for one day a week to attend lessons. You will also need a clean CRB check to enable you to work with children.
