The Apprenticeship training comprises of 5 parts:
The Knowledge Element: The ILM Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading
There are three mandatory units covering the core skills needed to lead a team. Learners look at how to plan, allocate and monitor work and gain tools and techniques to develop as a leader and get the most out of their team. Learners also have a choice of optional units which are likely to be determined by the employer and learner jointly identifying what best suits their needs. Each optional unit has a credit value of between 1 and 3 and learners need to achieve 6 credits.
The Competency Element: ILM Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Team Leading
This NVQ gives learners the opportunity to create a portfolio of evidence showing how they are applying team leading skills within their workplace. The mandatory units focus on managing their own personal development, developing working relationships with colleagues and improving their communication and have a credit value of 10. A further 7 credits to complete this qualification are achieved through taking 2 optional units. One must be taken from Group B and one from Group C.

Functional Skills
If employees did not achieve GCSE grade C or above in English, Maths or ICT in the last 5 years they will need to attend functional skills sessions to improve their qualifications.
The final two elements are the development of Personal learning and Thinking Skills which is embedded in the knowledge and competency elements of training and Employment Rights and Responsibilities where legal knowledge is checked through completion of a workbook.
