The Installation and Maintenance Electrician Level 3 Apprenticeship at the College of North West London is designed for learners who want to build a career as a qualified electrician in the construction, engineering and energy sectors. This apprenticeship prepares you to install, maintain and repair electrical systems in a range of environments including residential, commercial and industrial settings. You will work on electrical installations such as lighting, power systems, heating, ventilation and emerging renewable technologies that support low-carbon and sustainable solutions. This programme is recognised as a green apprenticeship, supporting the development of skills needed for energy efficiency, renewable technologies and the future of sustainable construction.

This electrician apprenticeship combines hands-on experience with technical training to develop the skills required to work safely and effectively in the electrical industry.

You will learn how to:

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical systems in domestic, commercial and industrial environments
  • Work with electrical equipment such as cables, switchboards, motors, lighting systems and control systems
  • Carry out inspection, testing, commissioning and fault-finding on electrical installations
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and wiring diagrams
  • Apply electrical regulations and standards such as BS 7671 and the Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Work with renewable and low-carbon technologies, including energy-efficient systems
  • Use safe working practices and comply with health and safety legislation
  • Plan and organise work effectively, including selecting materials and managing resources
