This intensive course combines theoretical chemistry with practical laboratory work, helping you develop essential scientific knowledge and skills required for further education and science-related careers.
Awarding Body:
You will study a wide range of chemistry topics, developing both your understanding of scientific principles and your practical investigation skills.
You will learn through classroom-based teaching, experimental work, homework and independent study to support your progress.
- Atomic structure and the periodic table
- Bonding, structure and properties of matter
- Quantitative chemistry
- Chemical changes
- Energy changes
- Rates of reaction and equilibrium
- Organic chemistry
- Chemical analysis
- Chemistry of the atmosphere
- Using resources
Throughout the course, you will carry out practical experiments to develop your laboratory and investigative skills.
After successfully completing this course, you can progress to:
- Level 3 science qualifications such as BTEC Applied Science
- Access to HE courses in Science or Health
- Further education or university pathways in science-related subjects
A GCSE in Chemistry supports entry into careers in education, healthcare, science and engineering fields.
Assessment is primarily through:
- Final external GCSE examinations
- Practical and laboratory-based assessments
You will receive ongoing support and regular assessments to prepare for your final exams.
You will need to have previously gained a grade 4 or a grade C in GCSE English and/or Maths, we may also require additional GCSEs, depending on your English and Maths grades. Or you will need to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills by taking an initial assessment.
