Functional Skills English (Various Levels)
The Functional Skills in Maths course is designed for adult learners who want to improve their numeracy skills for everyday life, work and further study. Available from Entry Level 2 to Level 1, this flexible part-time course helps you build confidence in maths and develop practical problem-solving skills. You will be assessed at enrolment to ensure you are placed at the right level.
You will develop essential maths skills that can be applied in real-life situations, work environments and further learning.
You will learn through a combination of classroom-based teaching, practical activities and online resources to support your understanding and progress.
- Number skills and non-calculator arithmetic
- Fractions, percentages and ratios
- Decimals and calculations involving money
- Timetabling and scheduling
- Shapes and spatial problem solving
- Interpreting data and statistics
After successfully completing this course, you can progress to:
- Higher-level Functional Skills or GCSE Maths
- Vocational courses and apprenticeships
- Improved employment opportunities
Assessment is carried out through formal exams and ongoing practice assessments. This includes:
- Supervised external assessments at set points during the course
- Practice tasks and mock exams to prepare for final assessment
- Completion of an initial maths assessment at enrolment
- A functional level of spoken and written English (minimum Entry Level 2)
- Improve confidence in everyday maths skills
- Gain a nationally recognised qualification
- Develop practical skills for work and life
- Learn in a supportive adult learning environment
- Progress to higher-level study or employment
Depending on your level, you may achieve:
- Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 2
- Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 3
- Functional Skills Maths Level 1
- Approximately 3 hours of study per week
- At least 1 hour of independent study recommended weekly
- Courses delivered in English
