AS ENGLISH LANGUAGE
The AS includes: a submission of a coursework folder of two pieces of work: an analytical comparison of two texts (one written, one multimodal e.g. email, advert, website), and adaptive writing plus commentary (where you adapt one of the texts from part 1 into a new text with a different audience or purpose. As well as two exam units: ‘Speech and Children’ and ‘Speech Varieties and Social Groups’
The A2 includes: developing your AS knowledge through two units: ‘Language and the Media’, where you will be required to submit a coursework folder of 3,000 words and an examined unit which focuses on the study of texts in three modes: spoken, written, and multimodal. You will need a minimum of grade B in GCSE English Language and you must also meet the general entry requirements of 6 GCSEs A*-C for a 3 AS Level program or 7 GCSEs A*-C for a 4 AS Level program; all obtained in one sitting.
