AS DRAMA AND THEATRE STUDIES
The AS (Year 1) includes 2 units:
The AS requires personal response to and evaluation of a range of live theatre experiences as seen during the course. There will be a practical exploration and written supporting analysis of two contrasting play texts and all students are practically assessed on a duologue (two person scene), and their performance of a role within an adapted playscript published by an established playwright.
The A2, (Year 2) includes 2 more units which are more demanding and intensify the knowledge, understanding and skills developed by students in year 1.
The course requires the study and creation of a unique piece of theatre and students are assessed on both the final performance within a live theatre context and on the developmental process. The exam unit asks students to explore a set text from the perspective of the director, and to evaluate an historical play within both its original and contemporary contexts.
