BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Engineering
Following on from Level 2, this course builds on the students' knowledge and understanding. Successful completion will result in the Extended Diploma being awarded.
The course includes the following units split between the two years. An option to specialise in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering is available in the second year. Engineering Principles Delivering Engineering Processes Product Design & Manufacture Applied Commercial & Quality Principles Specialist Project Microcontroller Systems Calculus [Mathematics] Further Engineering Mathematics Electronic Devices & Components Analogue Electronic Circuits Mechanical Behaviour of Metallic Materials Static Mechanical Principles Plus three others The high quantity and level of mathematics in this course requires applicants to achieve at least a grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics as an entry requirement. You will have approximately 800 hours of direct tuition over the two years. As a guide you will need to spend another 700 hours in independent study and completing assignments/projects to achieve the level of attainment necessary for the award of the qualification.
The course gives learners specialist knowledge and technical skills, enabling entry to an apprenticeship or other employment, or progression to related higher education (university) courses. Most assessment evidence is submitted by written coursework and reports. However, three units listed are assessed externally including one examination. As a guide you will be expected to spend a minimum of 700 hours on independent study and completing coursework over the two years
A minimum GCSE grade 5 in Mathematics plus four other GCSE grades of 4 or above which must include English Language. English level: GCSE English Language (Grade 4 or above). Mathematics level: GCSE Mathematics (Grade 5 or above).
