The BTEC Higher National Diploma in Travel and Tourism Management is a vocational Higher Education course.
Year One
Year one is concentrated on gaining an understanding of the global environment within which the travel and tourism sector operates, interpret financial accounts, learn the key concepts and principles of marketing, understand the rationale and different approaches to sustainable tourism planning. Study the cultural, social and physical features of UK and worldwide destinations. Understand the role of the hospitality industry within the travel and tourism sector and gain an understanding of tourist motivation theories. You will also be required to study contextual references, critical analysis, key theoretical concepts and professional practice. The aim is that by the end of the first year you have gained lots of practical and theoretical experience and confidence to build upon in the second year.
Year Two
The second year of the course builds on and consolidates the theories and concepts you attained in the first year strengthening the depth and sophistication of your knowledge. You will also write a critical essay and complete your studies in Professional practice.
You will have more opportunity to specialise in the second year, the briefs are more open to interpretation and the Final Research Project at the end of the year offers you the opportunity to write and realise your own project. You will study further contemporary issues in travel and tourism, legislation and ethics, entrepreneurial skills, special interest tourism and work based experience.
