Bookkeeping and Accounts Level 1 Award
AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping is a short, part-time course designed for adults who want to start a career in accounting, finance or bookkeeping. This beginner-friendly course introduces the fundamentals of bookkeeping, making it ideal if you have little or no prior experience. It provides a solid foundation for progression into further accounting qualifications such as AAT.
Awarding Body:
You will learn essential bookkeeping principles and practical accounting skills used in real business environments.
You will learn through classroom-based teaching, practical exercises and guided activities to build your understanding step by step.
- Introduction to double-entry bookkeeping
- Recording sales in sales day books and ledgers
- Recording purchases in purchase day books and ledgers
- Preparing cash books and bank reconciliations
- Managing petty cash records
- Preparing an initial trial balance
After successfully completing this course, you can progress to:
- AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
- Further bookkeeping and finance qualifications
- Entry-level roles in finance or administration
Assessment is through:
- An external exam at the end of the course
- Ongoing practice and tutor support throughout the programme
- GCSE English and Maths or Entry Level 3
- Successful completion of an English and Maths initial assessment
- An interview may be required, we’ll be in touch after you apply to invite you to an interview if needed
- Alternative entry via relevant experience may be acceptable
