Art & Design Level 3 Extended Diploma
The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design at City of Westminster College is a two-year course for students aged 16–18 who are passionate about developing their creative practice and progressing to university or a career in the creative industries.
Delivered at our Paddington Green Campus, this exploratory course provides an immersive experience in visual art, design and communication. You will explore a wide range of disciplines before focusing on a specialist pathway.
Awarding Body:
In Year 1, you will explore a range of creative specialisms to build a broad foundation of skills and discover your strengths.
Pathways include:
- 2D and 3D Fine Art and design Creative darkroom processes
- Creative digital and Graphic Design
- Fashion and Textiles
You will develop practical, technical, conceptual and communication skills across these areas and apply them to a final project.
In Year 2, you will select an area of specialism, developing advanced skills and creating a professional body of work that reflects your individual creative identity.
Learning takes place through:

- One-to-one tutorials
- Peer and self-assessment
This course prepares you for progression to higher education and careers in the creative industries.

Assessment is project-based and reflects your development over the six mandatory units.
In Year 1:
- You will be assessed on practical and contextual projects
- Your grade is determined by final project in unit 3
In Year 2:
- You will complete projects exploring your chosen specialst area in more depth.
- Your final grade combines your Year 1 result and an internally assessed final project
You will be expected to complete 10–15 hours of independent study each week.
- 4-5 GCSEs (grades 4 or above) including English and/or a creative subject (e.g. subjects such as art, design, media, drama or music))
- OR Level 2 qualification in a creative arts subject
- An interview will be required; and you will need to show us examples of your creative skills. We’ll be in touch after you apply to invite you to an interview
