Applied Science Level 1 Diploma
Level 1 Diploma in Applied Science is designed for learners aged 16-18 who want to build a strong foundation in scientific knowledge, practical skills and laboratory techniques. This full-time course introduces you to key areas of biology, chemistry and physics, while developing essential skills for further study or entry-level roles in science-related fields.
Awarding Body:
You will study a range of units throughout the year, designed to develop your understanding of science and its real-world applications.
You will learn through a combination of classroom-based lessons, practical experiments, group work and independent study to build both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills.

You will also work towards improving your English and Maths through GCSE or Functional Skills qualifications alongside your course.
After successfully completing this course, you can progress to:

- Further education and training opportunities
Progression is dependent on achieving high-quality assignments and demonstrating readiness for Level 2 study.
Assessment is coursework-based and completed throughout the year:
- Written assignments and reports
- Practical assessments and observations
- Presentations and project work
Each unit is assessed using one or more of these methods, allowing you to build a portfolio of evidence.
- No formal qualifications required OR 0–2 GCSEs (grades 1, 2 or 3) (flexibility may apply)
- Initial assessment in English and maths
- Alternative entry via reference, personal statement, or demonstrated interest may be acceptable
