A Level Sociology
A Level Sociology is designed for learners aged 16-18 who want to understand how society works and how social issues affect individuals and communities. You will explore key topics such as education, crime, media and family life, while developing strong skills in analysis, research and critical thinking, preparing you for university and a wide range of careers.
Awarding Body:
You will study a range of sociological topics across two years, gaining insight into social structures, institutions and behaviours.
You will learn through a combination of taught lessons, group work, discussions and presentations, supported by independent study and research activities.

- Family and Households
- Education, including Research Methods
- Year 2:
- The Media
- Crime and Deviance, including Research Methods
After successfully completing this course, you can progress to:
- University degrees in Sociology, Criminology, Psychology or related subjects
- Higher education or professional qualifications
- Careers in marketing, teaching, nursing, media, social care and public services
Assessment is 100% exam-based and takes place at the end of the course:
- Year 1: Two exams (1 hour 30 minutes each)
- Year 2: Three exams (2 hours each)
- 4–5 GCSEs (grades 4–6), including English, Geography, History, Citizenship, Psychology, Religious Education or Sociology (flexibility may apply)
- OR Level 2 qualification
- An interview may be required; we’ll be in touch after you apply to invite you to an interview if needed
- Alternative entry via relevant experience may be acceptable
