A Level English Literature is designed for learners aged 16-18 who enjoy reading and want to develop strong analytical, critical thinking and communication skills. Through the study of plays, poetry and novels, you will explore how writers present ideas, themes and characters, preparing you for university study and careers in creative and academic fields.
You will study a wide range of literary texts across different genres and time periods, developing your ability to interpret and evaluate literature.
You will learn through a combination of lectures, group discussions, independent reading and essay writing, helping you build confidence in analysis and written communication.
In Year 1, you will study modern texts and poetry alongside developing your analytical skills. In Year 2, you will explore more complex texts, including Shakespeare and additional literary works.

Coursework focuses on post-1900 literature and contributes to your final A Level grade.
