A Level English Language is designed for learners aged 16-18 who want to deepen their understanding of how language works in different contexts while developing advanced analytical, communication and creative writing skills. This course explores both written and spoken language, preparing you for university study and careers in communication-focused industries.
A Level English Language explores how language shapes the way we communicate, think and interact in everyday life. Students investigate how spoken, written and digital language is used in a wide range of real-world contexts, developing the skills to analyse language with precision and confidence.
The course examines topics including language and power, gender and identity, language and the media, child language acquisition, language change over time, and regional and social variation. Students learn how language reflects and influences society while applying linguistic theories and terminology to authentic texts and data.
Alongside two examination papers, students complete an independent language investigation on a topic of their own choosing, allowing them to explore an area of personal interest using academic research methods.
A Level English Language develops advanced analytical, communication and critical thinking skills that are highly valued by universities and employers.
